Even though Austin is in the hill country, it doesn’t have a lot of good motorcycling roads – it just has too many people and too much traffic. Accordingly, most Austin area riders end up going west into the heart of the hill country for better riding. Fitzhugh Road runs east-west and provides a main artery into the hill country. It is lightly travelled, offers some great views of the hill country, has enough turns, twists, and elevation changes to keep things interesting and, finally, allows riders to avoid the busy and boring Hwy 290. If you haven’t ridden Fitzhugh, give it a try next time you are in south Austin and looking for some fun riding.
