Though people seemed to have lived in Real de Catorce prior to 1772, when silver was discovered in that year the village began to grow and was officially founded in 1779. Imagine for a moment what life must have been like in Real in 1772. Work all week. Worship on Sunday. These thoughts ran through my mind as JT and I walked the steep streets. When I saw the wheel barrel filled with ore and the Cross it made me think of the two major activities that were likely been the cornerstone of life in Real for many years – work and worship.
