Roadside Taco Stands
My friends and I tend to travel the more remote areas of Mexico in search of adventure on our motorcycles. Not surprisingly, we don’t encounter many American style fast food restaurants like McDonalds or Burger King. However, there are roadside taquerias, or taco stands, everywhere and the food is almost always very good.
My Spanish isn’t particularly good but as best as I can tell most of these places are owned and run by a family. It’s not uncommon for the parents to handle the cooking duties and the kids to wait on the customers. In the picture below, you can see the older man preparing the food and the young fellow will deliver the food when it’s ready.
For those of you wondering, when I first began going to Mexico on my bike I used to be concerned that I might have intestinal issues from eating at places like this but to date I’ve never had a problem. I’m not saying it can’t or won’t happen but so far it has been fine.
